What is Chatref?
Chatref is a no-code AI chatbot platform that lets businesses create chatbots trained on their own content. It answers questions from your uploaded documents, website pages, and help articles, not from the public internet.
Who is Chatref built for?
Any business that wants to automate answers using its own knowledge. Common users include SaaS companies, e-commerce stores, agencies, and internal teams. It works best when you already have documentation, FAQs, or product content to train on.
How long does setup take?
Most teams go live in under 5 minutes. Upload your content or paste a website URL, then add a single script tag to your site. No coding or engineering support required.
Do I need technical skills?
No. Chatref is built for non-technical users with a visual interface. Upload files, paste URLs, and configure your chatbot without writing any code. Developers can optionally use APIs for advanced setups.
What content can I train on?
Chatref accepts PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, and Markdown files up to 10MB each, plus website URLs. Your content is organised so the chatbot can answer from it.
Where can I deploy the chatbot?
A website chat widget (any site, via one script tag), WhatsApp, and a native Shopify integration. The widget works with WordPress, Shopify, Next.js, Webflow, and any custom website.

How does Chatref prevent incorrect or made-up answers?
Chatref answers only from your uploaded content. It does not search the internet or answer from general knowledge. If the answer is not in your content, Chatref says so instead of guessing.
Can I customise the chatbot's behaviour and appearance?
Yes. Set custom instructions to control tone, language, and style. Customise the widget colours, logo, welcome message, and dark mode. You can also choose which AI model powers your chatbot.
Does Chatref support human handoff?
Yes. Built-in human handoff can be enabled per chatbot. When the chatbot cannot resolve a question, it captures the customer's email and keeps the full conversation for your team to follow up.
Can Chatref be restricted to specific topics?
Yes. Custom instructions let you define what the chatbot should and should not answer. Because it answers only from your connected content, it cannot respond to questions outside your knowledge.
What integrations does Chatref support?
Custom action forms inside conversations can send data to external tools via webhooks, so you can connect any CRM, email platform, or internal system that accepts a webhook. Native integrations include WhatsApp and Shopify.
Can customers rate chatbot responses?
Yes. Message feedback is built in. Customers can rate individual responses, helping you monitor answer quality over time and spot gaps in your content.

How does Chatref pricing work?
Pay-as-you-go with no subscriptions. You get $50 free credit on signup, then pay per chatbot response based on length. Every feature is included for all users, with no feature gates or tiered plans.
Is there a free trial?
Every new account gets $50 in free credit, no credit card required. That is enough to test the platform thoroughly before you top up. There is no time limit on the free credit.
Are there limits on chatbots or team members?
No. Chatref includes unlimited chatbots and unlimited team seats for all users. There are no per-seat charges and no limit on how many chatbots you create.
How do I add more credit?
Top up at any time (minimum $10). Credit is added instantly and used as your chatbots answer questions. There are no recurring charges or automatic renewals.

Who owns the data I upload?
You retain full ownership of everything you upload. Chatref processes your data only to generate chatbot responses, and never claims ownership or reuses your data across accounts.
Is my data shared with other customers?
No. All data is isolated at the workspace level. Chatref does not share content across customers and does not use your data to train public AI models.
How secure is data stored in Chatref?
Data is stored in isolated environments per workspace with restricted access. Files are stored with encryption, and access controls apply to both stored data and live conversations.
Does the chatbot access the public internet?
No. Chatref chatbots answer only from your uploaded content. They do not search the internet, browse external sites, or use general knowledge to answer.
