Chatref ships every feature on pay-as-you-go pricing, with $50 free credit on signup and no subscription.

The story

How it played out.

01

The challenge

ChefBox ships weekly recipe kits across 14 cities. Before Chatref, the pricing page converted poorly because shoppers had real, specific questions before handing over a card – can I swap a recipe, does the family plan cover three adults, how late can I pause for a holiday, is the Mediterranean box nut-free this week.

The four-person support team answered every one of these by email, usually the next business day – by which point most visitors had already closed the tab.

02

The Chatref setup

ChefBox connected Chatref to their weekly recipe CMS feed, uploaded the plans matrix, allergen and dietary policies, the pause-and-skip knowledge-base article, and the delivery-window rules by postcode. The chatbot was live on the site the same day.

Because Chatref only answers from the material it has been trained on, the bot stayed on-brand. When a question fell outside scope, it handed off to the human support team with the full chat transcript attached, so nothing had to be re-asked.

03

The outcome

New subscription sign-ups climbed 49% in the first two months against the prior baseline, driven almost entirely by chats initiated on the pricing and checkout pages. Pre-sales email volume dropped 58%, and 74% of chats resolved without any human escalation.

ChefBox runs the chatbot on pay-as-you-go credit – they topped up once beyond the $50 starter credit and have not needed to think about plans, seats, or feature gates since. Every integration and every feature is included for every account.
